It all started with an idea. In 1967, George W. Thorpe, a retired Deputy Director of Intelligence with the US Air Force, conceived a plan to offer specialised data processing services. Launched as National Data Corporation (NDC) in Atlanta, the company quickly opened offices in three other U.S. cities.
What follows is in incredible growth story. By 1977, 50 percent of all banks in the U.S. and Canada used NDC for MasterCharge authorisation. By 1984, NDC had made multiple acquisitions, launched new services and processed more credit card transactions than any other company in the world.
