September 14 2019, the official date for when Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements were to be brought into force, has now passed, without causing the kind of disruption that was initially expected.
The payments landscape is fast evolving. From bartering with goods and services, to the acceptance of coins and notes, and the rise of the bank card in the 20th century, it’s fair to say that the pace of innovation shows no sign of slowing. There has been a lot of talk around the changes contained in the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2), and the introduction of Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). One significant change for the industry is that in January 2018, the EU Payment Services Directive took effect and with it, introduced new laws aimed at reducing online fraud and protecting our consumer rights. Subsequently, an important element of PSD2 is the introduction of SCA on 14 September 2019 for in-store and online transactions....
