Issuing

• At implementation the issuer decides the preferred authorization method for card products
• The system enables a full on-line to issuer mode, dynamic stand-in, or full outsourcing method. In the first two methods, the issuer may specify the pre-verification criteria (e.g. PIN, card spending limits, expiry etc.) Issuer has real freedom in designing its card products and security features
• Should the issuer's system fail, Global Payments takes over the authorization processing without service disruption

Acquiring

• At implementation the acquirer specifies the list of card associations supported, type and manufacturer of POS, ATM, and cash register devices
• In addition to authorization services, Global Payments Europe also provides ATMs and POS installation and maintenance services

Issuing

• Authorizations may be directed to Global Payments Europe systems either via any card association network or from devices serviced by Global Payments Europe. The transaction is then verified using one of these pre-set methods:
  • Positive authorization - each card has its specific set of spending limits and security parameters
  • Positive authorization with balance check - as above plus the account balance is verified
  • Negative authorization - the list of payment cards with transactions to be denied is checked (lost, stolen, closed, non-active cards, etc). Method not often used due to security limitations, but remains in our portfolio to support legacy systems.

Authorization may be accomplished by Global Payments Europe or by issuer site, where the authorization request is redirected. All messages are logged for future back-office processing.

Acquiring

• Global Payments Europe accepts authorization requests from POS terminals, ATMs and voice authorization hot-lines. Depending on the issuer, the transaction is either authorized locally in the Global Payments Europe system, or it is routed to the appropriate card network for authorization.
• The response is then forwarded to the original device that requested the authorization
• All messages are logged for future back-office processing.
